Kathy Throne began working at Lehigh in 2004 in the Human Resources Office. In 2007, she became a secretary in the Psychology Department. Since 2011, she has been coordinator for the Department of Journalism and Communication.
As coordinator, Kathy has many varied responsibilities, which she carries out with unflagging good humor and efficiency.
She is often a traffic manager as our first point of contact with visitors, including students and prospective students, parents, other Lehigh employees, and the public. She works with faculty and other staff members to arrange meetings and other events. She deals with Facilities Services to ensure that the building is in good repair, and with the Registrar in scheduling the various classrooms and meeting rooms in the building.
Perhaps most important, she is responsible for monitoring students' progress, helping them sign up as majors or minors, maintaining their academic records, and helping faculty prepare for advising and class registration.
She works with our publication coordinator, Linda Lipko, to guide the business staff of our student newspaper, The Brown and White, and the editors of our yearbook, The Epitome, and she serves as a backup to Linda in monitoring financial accounts for the publications and the department.
Kathy supervises work-study students who are hired to help with the publications and in the departmental office, and she orders the many office supplies that are required by the publications and faculty.
So, when you call the department's general telephone number, it'll likely be Kathy's cheerful voice that you hear at the other end. We're glad it's that way.
